Program Mission
SCTE’s Energy 360 program leads innovation in technology, operations, network transformation and sustainability to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy costs across the broadband industry.
Standards for Today. Vision for Tomorrow.
Our vision is for the broadband cable industry to lead in energy efficiency and sustainability—delivering benefits not only to the industry, but also to people and the world around us.
Energy Standards
ANSI-accredited, consensus-developed standards that drive consistent energy-saving practices across the industry.
Operational Best Practices
ANSI-accredited, consensus-developed standards that drive consistent energy-saving practices across the industry.
Areas of Impact
Leveraging the input of U.S. and international operators, SCTE has identified initiatives across five key areas:
Facilities
Improving energy use in buildings and technical spaces.
Plant
Modernizing plant infrastructure for better efficiency.
Operations
Streamlining procedures for enhanced energy performance.
Technology
Introducing innovative, next-generation energy-saving technologies.
Marketing & Regulatory
Supporting messaging and compliance in a shifting environmental landscape.
Why It Matters
Energy 360 is more than a standards program—it’s a strategic advantage. By participating, operators and vendors can contribute to shaping the future of energy-efficient broadband networks while achieving bottom-line savings and meeting sustainability benchmarks.
Recent Analysis of Cable Operator Power Consumption
Outside Plant and Critical Facilities Represent the Greatest Opportunity for Energy Cost Avoidance
At least 66% of the cable industry’s total energy consumption comes from hubs, headends, and access network power supplies. These systems keep the HFC network running—but they also drive the bulk of energy costs.
To achieve real progress in energy efficiency, the industry must come together to innovate and optimize these high-impact areas.
