Requirements
All SCTE certifications require 36 Continuing Education Hours (CEHs) every 3 years, equivalent to an average of 12 CEHs per year, to remain active.

How do I view the CEH value for a course?
The number of CEHs awarded for each course is listed in the course catalog on both the course listing and individual course pages, indicated by “CEH.”

Live online, hybrid or on-the-job technical instruction.
How do partial hours work?
- CEHs are awarded in full hours
- Partial hours for sessions over 60 minutes round up at the 30-minute mark — meaning 89 minutes counts as 1 CEH, and 90 minutes counts as 2.
How do I submit external training?
Upload a transcript or letter to the SCTE LMS that includes: learner name, training/course title, training provider name and phone number, completion date and length of training (in minutes).

Can I attend a conference that's not under the approved list?
You must request approval by emailing [email protected] with the conference name, URL, dates and how it relates to your certification. Once approved and attended, upload the conference name, URL, dates and your registration confirmation to the SCTE LMS.

How to submit documentation
Upload the following to the SCTE LMS: certification provider, certification name, exam completion date, and the URL to the digital certificate or badge
4 easy steps
Recertification Process
The recertification window opens 6 months prior to certification expiration and closes on the certification end date. Complete these steps before your end date to maintain active status.
- Check your CEH balance by logging in to your SCTE account and selecting Transcript from the left menu.
- Upload the required documentation for all eligible externally earned CEHs directly in the SCTE LMS.
- Once you’ve reached 36 CEHs, submit your recertification application and pay the applicable fee through the SCTE Portal during your open recertification window.
- After approval, you’ll receive confirmation along with your refreshed digital certificate and badge — ready to share with employers and peers.
Expired Certifications
Certifications expire 3 years after the award date or most recent recertification.
- Expired certifications can be reinstated by retaking and passing the certification exam, in accordance with the SCTE
Certification Exam Integrity Policy. - Once expired, certifications are inactive and may not be represented as current.

Emeritus Certification
Emeritus status recognizes long-term commitment, leadership and service within the broadband industry. Professionals who maintain 21 consecutive years of active SCTE certification are recognized with Emeritus status — awarded automatically each July. No application required.
