FCBI Microcredentials

Broadband deployment isn’t slowing down—and neither can workforce readiness.

The new SCTE Microcredentials deliver hands-on, task-specific validation of critical broadband skills. Built for real-world performance, these credentials are designed to rapidly upskill the workforce and meet real-world deployment demands.

About SCTE Microcredentials

Unlike broader certifications that cover wide-ranging knowledge domains, Microcredentials validate focused, hands-on proficiency in specific broadband field tasks. Each program is structured to support rapid skill development and assessment through a combination of:

  • Scenario-based knowledge assessment
  • Live, in-person training and skills validation
  • Standards-aligned evaluation criteria

These credentials are ideal for:

  • Contractors and technicians working in the Outside Plant
  • Rapid upskilling initiatives
  • High-demand deployment skills
  • Entry-level to experienced professionals

Introducing the SCTE Fiber-Optic Cable Blowing Installer (FCBI)

As fiber deployments accelerate across Outside Plant environments, the need for skilled fiber installation professionals continues to grow.

The Fiber Cable Blowing Installer (FCBI) Micro-Credential validates the skills required to safely and effectively install fiber optic cable using air-assisted and mechanically assisted blowing techniques. This credential directly addresses a critical workforce need by ensuring technicians are prepared to perform this high-demand task with precision and safety.

FCBI-K – Knowledge

The Fiber-Optic Cable Blowing Installer – Knowledge (FCBI-K) credential is awarded upon successful completion of a scenario-based knowledge exam focused on fiber blowing principles, safety practices, equipment operation and troubleshooting decision-making.

  • Key features include:
  • Online, proctored exam
  • Scenario-based questions
  • Validates applied understanding
FCBI-S – Skills

The Fiber-Optic Cable Blowing Installer – Skills (FCBI-S) credential is awarded upon successful completion of a hands-on, in-person performance assessment focused on equipment operation and troubleshooting decision-making.
