Fort Hays State University (FHSU) is a state, liberal and applied arts university established originally in 1902 in Kansas. FHSU has over 11,000 online and campus students. The FHSU Virtual College coordinates all distance learning and off-campus programs for the university. The Virtual College offers both asynchronous (anytime, anyplace) and synchronous (same time, different locations) learning.

Certificate in Interworking

The FHSU Certificate in Internetworking is designed to provide key skills for persons desiring to be computer-networking professionals. A student completing the FHSU certificate will have completed the course work necessary to sit for the prestigious Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) examination. The five classes in this certificate also apply toward the FHSU Bachelor of General Studies or Bachelor of Science concentration in Telecommunications and Networking offered by the Department of Information Networking and Telecommunications.

Associate of General Studies (AGS)

The Associate of General Studies (AGS) is a unique degree available through the College of Arts and Sciences at Fort Hays State University. The AGS allows you to meet short-term educational goals and helps prepare you to move ahead in your current job, a new career or as a step on your way to a bachelor’s degree. The AGS degree can be completed on campus or on-line through the university’s Virtual College. The degree can be an intermediate step on your way to a bachelor's degree. Most importantly, the program provides the freedom to select a major and go on to fulfill the bachelor's degree of your choice.

Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) with Concentration in Information Networking and Telecommunications

The Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) is a degree in liberal arts and sciences that provides maximum flexibility for students who have well-defined career objectives and wish to determine the content of their degree rather than pursue one of the established majors at FHSU. The program includes general education requirements and an area of concentration but not a specific major.

The Bachelor of General Studies is a general degree that can be used for entry into a wide variety of occupations. The BGS degree serves as a bridge to numerous graduate degree programs and prepares students for employment in areas not requiring specific baccalaureate degrees. The area of emphasis or concentration can be tailored to prepare students for entry into a particular career area. Bachelor of Science Degree (BS) in Information Networking and Telecommunications

The concentration in Computer Networking and Telecommunications prepares graduates to work in telecommunications companies or in corporate, education, law enforcement, health care, and other computer and network positions. Graduates typically serve in engineering, production, operations, managerial, sales, consulting or regulatory positions. Fort Hays State University offers a nationally recognized degree in Information Networking and Telecommunications that has been repeatedly designated as a "best practice" program. This concentration can include course work necessary to sit for the Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) and advanced Cisco certifications.

Time Limits for Completion of Degrees

There is no time limit for completing the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree so it allows students an opportunity to take one course per semester or several courses at a time. Students have a maximum of six years to meet catalog requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree.
