CCNA2v7: Switching, Routing, and Wireless Essentials

ccna_2.jpg

CCNA2v7: Switching, Routing, and Wireless Essentials (SRWE) for cable professionals is the second of three courses that are used to prepare for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) exam. This course also prepares individuals for the SCTE Internet Protocol Engineering Professional (IPEP) Industry certification.

CCNA2v7 introduces SCTE learners to architecture, components, and operations of routers and switches in small networks and introduces wireless local area networks (WLAN) and security concepts using a hands-on approach, with an emphasis on cable operator operations. In addition, the course will assist learners with configuring and troubleshooting routers and switches for advanced functionality using security best practices and resolve common issues with protocols in both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. SCTE courses emphasize critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and the practical application of skills.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to configure and troubleshoot VLANs and inter-VLAN routing on Layer 3 devices. In addition, configure spanning tree protocol, EtherChannel, dynamic addressing, first-hop redundancy protocols, IPv4/IPv6 routing, wireless LANs, and implement security best practices.

Format

Online, Self-Paced Scheduled with Virtual Instructor

This course is expected to take 12 weeks to complete online, about 4 to 6 hours per week. As an onsite boot camp, the length is 3 days supplemented with online content. Learners view online interactive materials, complete learning activities and NetworkSim® modules (e.g., Packet Tracer exercises) at a time that is convenient for the learner. A scheduled orientation, along with virtual online Cisco Certified Academy Instructor (CCAI) coaching sessions will be available. Learner participation is strongly suggested by SCTE to provide the best learning experience. If the learner is unable to attend a coaching session, each session will be recorded.

Course access information will be emailed when the course is purchased from SCTE.

System Requirements

  • High speed Internet (HSI) connection
  • Updated Internet Browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer)
  • HTML5 Support
  • Ability to install Packet Tracer software
  • For CCNAv7, the minimal version is Packet Tracer 8.0

Orientation Session

  • SCTE Training Portal
  • Cisco Academy materials, exercises and exams
  • Packet Tracer for NetworkSim modules
  • Assignments

Course Materials and Course Completion

Interactive and engaging SCTE and Cisco Network Academy course content that includes chapter assessments, learning activities, VirtuGame®, practice exams and a course final confirmation of learning, along with, a requirement to complete many hands-on labs using the NetworkSim platform Packet Tracer.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Configure VLANs and Inter-VLAN routing applying security best practices
  • Troubleshoot inter-VLAN routing on Layer 3 devices
  • Configure redundancy on a switched network using STP and EtherChannel
  • Troubleshoot EtherChannel on switched networks
  • Explain how to support available and reliable networks using dynamic addressing and first-hop redundancy protocols
  • Configure dynamic address allocation in IPv6 networks
  • Configure WLANs using a WLC and L2 security best practice
  • Configure switch security to mitigate LAN attacks
  • Configure IPv4 and IPv6 static routing on routers

Target Audience

The target audience is anyone who desires a practical and technical introduction to the field of networking and wireless. This includes field technicians, data technicians, business technicians, headend technicians, network operation center (NOC) staff, network engineers, network administrators, and IT help-desk staff.

Recommended Prerequisites

Cisco Certified Network Associate 1 (CCNA1v7): Introduction to Networks

NOTE: A learner may ONLY sign up for a single CCNA course at a time.

Certification

After completing CCNA3v7 learners are prepared to sit for the CCNA exam number 200-301

  • NOTE: Cisco certification exams are scheduled at Pearson VUE

The SCTE CCNA program prepare individuals for the SCTE Internet Protocol Engineering Professional (IPEP) Industry certification.

Upon Successful Completion

  • SCTE course completion certificate
  • Cisco course completion certificate
  • 4 recertification units (RUs) toward SCTE certification renewal
  • Discount certification exam voucher from the SCTE Cisco Academy

Knowledge is power, and certification is the proof. Certifications allow learners to be taken seriously in their networking and cable professions. Cisco offers a valuable voucher discount to help learners meet their certification goal. Learners with a 70% or better on the first final exam attempt are eligible for a discount voucher on the retail cost of a Cisco CCNA certification exam after CCNA3v7. Exam voucher discounts must be used within three (3) months of becoming eligible and require up to a 14-day processing time.
