will focus on OSP Maintenance with a strong emphasis on impairments and
basic amplifier and node set up. It will include troubleshooting using
PNM / HPMT data which is a skill set that will improve technician
efficiency and overall node performance resulting in higher plant
reliability and customer satisfaction.

9:00am - 9:15am:
Ranging nonlinear distortions (CPD) and linear distortions - Glenn R Hatt
Sr. Field Engineer, Arcom Digital
- Glenn will cover nonlinear distortions and
linear distortions to include CPD, micro-reflections and group
delay. It will include identifying these impairments, methods of
tracking them down, and the causes / resolutions.
PNM using Lighthouse & Scope – Jack Arneson Sr. Dir, Regional Field
Ops & Jeff Gerner Sr. Dir, Regional Plant Maintenance, Charter
- Jack and Jeff will show how to use Lighthouse
and Scope Preventive Network Maintenance tools for troubleshooting
impairments. This will include a few case studies taken from
actual Charter markets.
1:00pm - 2:15pm:
OSP basic set up and theory- John McKeon, System Engineer, Cisco Systems
- John will cover basic Rf Amplifier set up
including AGC circuits and temperature compensation. Also
basic Node and Optical Amplifier theory, principals, and setup.
2:15pm - 2:30pm:
Upstream noise and impairments Eric Olson, Senior Video Engineer, Viavi
Eric will discuss PathTrak, MacTrak, XperTrak and unique tools available
in the DSAM 6300/ONX 630.
