SCTE SYMPOSIUM TO FEATURE COMPREHENSIVE VIEW OF WIRELESS; MARCH 26 EVENT TO PRECEDE SCTE CANADIAN SUMMIT 2012

JAN. 30, 2012 (Exton, PA)—A soup-to-nuts exploration of wireless technologies will be on the agenda when the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) hosts a first-ever Wireless Symposium on Monday, March 26 in Toronto, Ontario.

The full-day event, which has been scheduled to coincide with the March 27-28 SCTE Canadian Summit 2012, will provide engineering and operations professionals with a comprehensive view of the opportunities and challenges of wireless for the cable industry.  The symposium will begin with a tutorial on wireless RF theory and system engineering; subsequent presentations by subject-matter experts from the cable system operator and vendor communities will address such issues as WiFi, LTE and Cellular Backhaul, with a particular focus on the Canadian marketplace.

Registration information for both the March 26 Wireless Symposium and the March 27-28 Canadian Summit is available at www.scte.org/summit. Discounted rates will apply for attendees who register for both events.  Both events will be held at the Toronto Congress Centre.

“WiFi hotspots, WiFi in the home, cellular backhaul and mobile services are universally recognized as areas that can drive future growth for the cable industry,” said Daniel Howard, senior vice president and CTO of SCTE.  “The Wireless Symposium has been created to accelerate the ability of cable operators in Canada, the United States and beyond to capitalize on these opportunities.”

Scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., the Wireless Symposium will include six presentations:

  • Wireless Overview and Basics;
  • LTE 101;
  • WiFi 101;
  • Backhaul;
  • Canadian Regulatory Environment 2012 and Beyond; and
  • Operations: Wireless and Wireline Convergence.

The Wireless Symposium and SCTE Canadian Summit have been designed to provide attendees with opportunities to enhance understanding of new technologies that are driving growth for the industry, particularly in the Canadian market and abroad. The events will feature the expertise of dozens of industry thought leaders, as well as Canadian Summit exhibits of products and solutions that can help the industry to drive new services, reduce costs and increase customer satisfaction.

The Summit is geared toward engineering professionals who want to focus on the exchange of technical information for today and tomorrow. The Summit examines the impact of integrating new technologies into existing cable infrastructures. Attendees will gain an understanding of the opportunities and the pitfalls of technology deployments—all to maximize customer satisfaction and gain operational efficiencies.  Information on exhibitor opportunities is available from Eileen Sload at esload@scte.org.  Sponsor and advertiser opportunities can be obtained by contacting Heather Gosciniak at hgosciniak@scte.org.
