SCTE’s certification programs continue to evolve as the telecommunications industry changes. Discussions with cable operators and SCTE members have resulted in a number of revisions that will enhance the certification experience and strengthen the value of SCTE certifications.

| Broadband Premises Expert (BPE) |
Available: Third quarter, 2009 |
The Broadband Premises Expert (BPE) Certification working group is developing the third new Broadband Premises certification - Broadband Premises Expert (BPE). The BPE certification will be available during the third quarter of 2009.
The BPE certification describes the knowledge of an expert field technician who will install and troubleshoot telecommunications services (video, voice, and data) at the customer’s premises. The successful certification candidate has the knowledge to install and service all "triple-play" installations.
The Broadband Premises Expert certification is one of three stand-alone Broadband Premises Specialist certifications. Content includes "the why" of the telecommunications installation and service. The other stand-alone BPS certifications are Broadband Premises Installer (BPI) and Broadband Premises Technician (BPT).

Several volunteer working groups are conducting a thorough review of the BDS, BTS, DVEP, and IPEP certification exams. SCTE has created an online exam platform that simplifies the certification exam process for candidates and proctors. The new platform provides a straightforward, one-step process for taking exams, with immediate availability to the exams. In addition, exam candidates pay only one testing fee instead of an enrollment fee and an exam fee. Read more…

BPS Program Enhancements

The Broadband Premises Specialist (BPS) certification is being restructured to align it with current industry practices. Three certifications – Broadband Premises Installer (BPI), Broadband Premises Technician (BPT), and Broadband Premises Expert (BPE) – will replace the current BPS and endorsements (Video, Voice, and Data). The current BPS certifications will continue to be available for one year after the new certifications are launched. The BPI and BPT certifications will go live in June, 2008, and the BPE will be available by the end of 2008. Read more…
| BCT/E Changes Are Announced |
Last Date for BCT/E Exams: December 31, 2010 |
The telecommunications industry has changed since the BCT/E certifications were originally designed and SCTE has developed other certification programs that more closely align with current industry practices. Therefore the BCT/E exams will be available through December 31, 2010. After December 31, 2010, no BCE exams will be administered. Read more…
