SCTE’S EXPO 2009 DRAWS NEARLY 9,000 TO DENVER; COX’S HATFIELD TO CHAIR EXPO 2010

OCT. 30, 2009 (Denver, CO)—The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) announces today that approximately 9,000 cable telecommunications professionals attended SCTE Cable-Tec Expo® 2009 in Denver.

SCTE’s annual flagship event, Expo featured a technology-focused exhibit hall, 25 technical workshops, and the debut of the Expo Cable Technology Spotlight, this year focusing upon Green energy-efficiency initiatives. Expo began Wednesday and concludes today at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

“Undeterred by its shift to a new fall timeframe, a sluggish economy, and a heavy snowstorm, Expo once again delivered the focused engineering and operational information that its attendees have come to expect,” said SCTE President/CEO Mark Dzuban. “Our attendees braved assorted adverse conditions to touch the technology, keeping the show floor and technical workshops buzzing with enthusiasm throughout the convention center here in Denver.”

The 2009 attendance figure represents a decrease of 18 percent from the record attendance of Expo 2008 in Philadelphia and a decrease of 11 percent from the last time Denver hosted Expo, which was in June 2006.

Looking ahead, SCTE will conduct Expo 2010 Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 20–22 in New Orleans, and the Society is pleased to announce that Scott A. Hatfield of Cox Communications will serve as the Expo 2010 Program Committee chairman. Hatfield is executive vice president and CTO with Cox.

Hatfield is responsible for Cox’s integrated technology organization, which includes all aspects of information technology and engineering. He is charged with the design, development, operation, and continuous improvement of a seamless technology platform to power Cox’s products and services. This includes the complete set of products, including video, data, wireline voice, and wireless.

Hatfield is also charged with all of Cox’s internal systems, including systems for customer care and enterprise operations.
