SCTE CABLE COLLEGE AT RIT BEGINS WITH ENROLLMENT FOR WINTER COURSES
OCT. 17, 2006 (Exton, PA)—The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) announces today that enrollment is under way for the first course offerings of the SCTE Cable College at RIT.
The SCTE Cable College at RIT will deliver the first cable-centric educational program for telecom technicians and engineers in the cable industry. This program will be delivered through courses and degree programs offered by the Electrical, Computer, and Telecommunications Engineering Technology (ECTET) Department and the Center for Multidisciplinary Studies (CMS). Courses will be offered exclusively online through distance education.
SCTE announced its new partnership with the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), of Rochester, N.Y., during SCTE Cable-Tec Expo® 2006 in June in Denver.
With the SCTE Cable College at RIT, enrollees can pursue a pair of bachelor of science degrees—one in applied arts and science and the other in telecommunications engineering technology—and a master of science degree in telecommunications engineering technology. Several certificate programs are also available.
The SCTE Education Advisory Board, which comprises top-level Multiple System Operator (MSO) representatives, will review and guide RIT curriculum development to ensure that the needs of the cable industry, including those of SCTE members as prospective students, can be satisfied.
Classes begin Monday, Dec. 4 for the winter courses, which include such titles as Telecommunication Fundamentals; Ethics, Economics, and Planning for Engineers; Signaling, Transmission, and Switching; and Network Management.
Course details, additional degree/certificate information, and enrollment instructions can be found at www.rit.edu/scte.
