JAN. 4, 2005 (Exton, PA)—The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) is proud to congratulate Randy Horn, regional director of data engineering, Adelphia, who recently was named the recipient of the 2005 Young Engineer of the Year Award.
Multichannel News, Scientific-Atlanta, and SCTE sponsor the annual award, which will be presented to Horn at the SCTE Conference on Emerging Technologies (ET), taking place Tuesday through Thursday, Jan. 11–13 in Huntington Beach, Calif. Horn will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to ET and $1,000.
“I am really excited to be the Young Engineer of the Year for 2005,” said Horn, when notified of his being selected. He turned 30 yesterday (Jan. 3) and resides in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Horn’s nominator, David W. Johnson, regional vice president of engineering, Adelphia, said, “Randy continues the refinement and optimization of our regional network to provide enhanced reliability and service quality to our customers.”
Johnson notes that one of the many items Horn has accomplished is the refinement of Adelphia’s processes for improving DOCSIS® performance and availability, as well as development of a new method of combining that leverages multiple upstream and downstream DOCSIS® channels.
“Randy is willing, able and ready to assist with challenging problems and will provide any type of work required for the solution,” said Johnson.
"Innovation plays a vital role in everything we do at Scientific-Atlanta, especially in our engineering efforts to continue to deliver the very best entertainment and information experience for cable's customers," said Dwight Duke, senior vice president and president, Transmission Network Systems at Scientific-Atlanta. "Fresh ideas and new approaches for products and services delivered by young engineers like Randy Horn are essential to a successful future for our industry."
