MARK COBLITZ TO KEYNOTE SCTE SEMI FORUM 2012

FEB. 2, 2012 (Exton, PA)—Mark Coblitz, senior vice president, strategic planning for Comcast Corporation, will deliver the keynote address for SCTE SEMI (Smart Energy Management Initiative) Forum 2012, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) announced today.

During the Thursday, March 15 conference in Philadelphia, Coblitz, acknowledged as one of the industry’s leading strategic thinkers, will discuss the need for cable system operators, programmers, vendors and others to work together to embrace comprehensive energy management strategies. Coblitz is expected to address the role energy decisions will play in optimizing the industry’s development and deployment of new, revenue-generating services.

The first SEMI event to be open to attendance by all interested parties, SEMI Forum 2012 will address an expanded agenda of power, density, performance and sustainability issues during the full-day conference at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown.  The event will bring together operators, vendors and other experts to share knowledge on promising and proven approaches to energy management. Additional information is at http://www.scte.org/events/scte_semi_forums.aspx.  Registration information is at http://www.scte.org/devams/cgi-bin/eventsdll.dll/EventInfo?sessionaltcd=NC_SEMI0312.

“Mark Coblitz’s thought leadership has played a major role in shaping how the cable industry adopts new technologies,” said Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of SCTE.  “His vision of energy management in the context of new business development significantly expands the horizons of how energy-related decisions can benefit our industry.”

“The value of energy management goes far beyond the public relations and financial benefits of ‘green’ solutions,” said Coblitz.  “Increasingly, cable needs to adopt strategic approaches that include the efficiency, availability and reliability of power, so that new services can be deployed when and where they are required.”

A 2003 recipient of the Vanguard Award for Science and Technology, Coblitz has played leadership roles in many of the most important cable technology initiatives.  He was a key figure in the development of cable modems and DOCSIS® specifications, chaired development of PacketCable™ technology for digital phone service and chaired the CableLabs® OpenCable Business Committee for the development of common software solutions for the cable industry.  Coblitz was a driver of Comcast’s activity in the new media space, making investments in early Internet-based companies, helping to found the Comcast Interactive Capital venture capital arm, and founding and leading the company’s New Media Development Group.  He also led the cable industry’s effort to secure “Plug-and-Play” agreements with the consumer electronics industry.  He has represented Comcast on numerous corporate boards, and currently is a member of the Management Committee of Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE), the developer of UltraViolet.

The March 15 SEMI event will be open to attendance by operators, programmers, vendors and other interested parties.
