GREEN PAVILION GROWS AT SCTE CABLE-TEC EXPO 2011; RECORD 16 EXHIBITORS ON TAP FOR ATLANTA

OCT. 11, 2011 (Exton, PA)—The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) today announced that it has assembled a record number of exhibitors who will showcase solutions for alternative energy and service assurance in the “Green Pavilion” at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo® in November in Atlanta, GA.

Sixteen organizations and vendors of energy-related products and solutions are expected to present a comprehensive view of the energy and powering ecosystem during the Nov. 15-17 conference.  The pavilion has been expanded this year to include Power Availability—including Disaster Preparedness, Network Availability and Business Services Availability—as well as such topics as Alternative and Renewable Powering; Backup Powering; Power Efficiency; Power Reduction; Recycling and Recovery; and Travel Reduction.

“One of the central themes at this year’s SCTE Cable-Tec Expo is how cable networks are evolving to deliver a host of new services to residential and business consumers,” said Derek DiGiacomo, senior director, information systems and energy management for SCTE.  “The Green Pavilion will focus on new strategies and technologies that can help operators to evolve their networks while reducing powering costs now and in the future, as well as minimizing service disruption when grid power is interrupted.”

Exhibitors in the Green Pavilion include:4CableTV; ; Cisco; Colt Recycling; CommScope; Coppervale; LED Saving Solutions; MultilinkROUND2 INC.; Safecom; SCTE; Universal Electronics; TOA Technologies; TVC Communications; Wipro Eco Energy; and Worldwide Environmental Services (WES).  Additional exhibitors are pending.  More information on exhibiting at the Green Pavilion and a companion exhibit, the Next Generation Video Architecture Pavilion, is available at http://expo.scte.org.

In addition to the Green Pavilion, SCTE also will offer an expanded menu of energy-related sessions at Cable-Tec Expo, including Facilities Management workshops on: addressing increased demands on Critical Facilities, including Headends, Hubs and Data Centers; Facilities Management that can increase reliability, capacity and recover; and Smart Energy Management strategies for increasing power efficiency and green initiatives.  SCTE will offer pre-conference presentations of the Critical Facilities and Facilities Management workshops on Monday, Nov. 14, in conjunction with a separate Capacity Management Symposium.

SCTE’s Sustainability Management Subcommittee (SMS) recently unveiled drafts of its first two standards, SMS 001 and SMS 002, which have been created to address “Recommended Energy Conservation, Sustainability and Efficiency Practices for Critical Systems” and “Product Environmental Requirements for Cable Telecommunications Facilities,” respectively.  The subcommittee also is beginning work on SMS 003, the development of an Adaptive Power System Interface Standard (APSIS™) for hardware coming to market in 2013 and beyond.  Earlier this year, SCTE also unveiled a prototype environmentally-friendly powering system for hardened cable business services, in conjunction with Alpha Technologies and CommScope.

Located this year at the Georgia World Congress Center, SCTE Cable-Tec Expo is renowned as a venue that helps the cable industry to reduce costs, deploy new services and increase customer satisfaction. Expo 2011 will feature industry leaders confronting key technical challenges; hundreds of hands-on, technology-centric exhibits; a full array of robust and relevant technical workshops; the International Cable-Tec Games; and valuable learning that is driven by peer-to-peer interaction and networking.  Separate registrations are required for the Capacity Management Symposium and Cable-Tec Expo.  Registration for both events is available at http://expo.scte.org.

SCTE members who register now can take advantage of discounts of more than $100 off the pre-registration rate. Non-members who join SCTE for $68 are immediately eligible for the member pre-registration discount.  Non-members can join SCTE by visiting the Member Services section of www.scte.org or by calling 800-542-5040.  A limited number of Expo sponsor opportunities also are available by contacting Heather Gosciniak at hgosciniak@scte.org.
